CURREY WELCOMES SOUTH WINDSOR STUDENTS TO CAPITOL

HARTFORD, CT- For more than 30 years, students from Connecticut’s 3rd Senate District have come to the Capitol to partake in Art at the Capitol, a day where they exhibit and discuss their art pieces. The event is a tradition that began in Hartford with former senator John Larson, and is now being continued by Senator Tim Larson (D-East Hartford).

Rep. Jeff Currey joined other lawmakers and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman Wednesday at the Capitol in welcoming students from South Windsor who were participating in the annual Art at the Capitol program.

Today, students from South Windsor gathered in the Senate chamber to display the artwork that they have been working on as a part of their public school education. Connecticut’s Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, state Senator Bob Duff (D-Norwalk), Representative Jeff Currey (D-11), and Bill Aman (R-14) were also in attendance.

“I am pleased that I am able to continue the tradition of Art at the Capitol, because it shows the children that freedom of expression through art can even be appreciated by those outside of their school,” said Senator Larson. “I am looking forward to displaying the student’s artwork here in the Legislative Office Building for visitors and staff to view so that they too can observe the beautiful work the students have done.”

“South Windsor Public Schools is proud to be part of the Art at the Capitol program for more than 30 years,” said Nicholas Canova, K-12 Art Curriculum Coordinator for South Windsor Public Schools. “Today’s students, parents, and South Windsor’s art department were thrilled to meet their legislative leaders. Senator Larson did a wonderful job of honoring the artistic achievements of our South Windsor artist.”

“I am pleased that Senator Larson has continued the Art at the Capitol program, we appreciate the Senator’s continued support,” said Brenda Parker, art teacher and the program’s director.

Art at the Capitol will take place throughout the spring for students Senator Larson’s districts, which include East Hartford, East Windsor, South Windsor, and Ellington.
