Allied Printing Services Inc., unveiled a massive 4,591 solar panel system on the roof of its 275,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Manchester. The project is being hailed as one of the largest in Connecticut and New England.
The 1.4 megawatt system, which is comprised of 4,591 panels atop Allied’s facility, will provide about 20 percent of Allied’s total electricity usage. The environmental benefit of the system is equivalent to powering 145 homes for a year, or planting 27,000 acres of trees. Allied Printing’s use of solar power will also result in the avoidance of about 1,116,000 pounds of CO2 per year.
“Our company has been very environmentally sensitive since we started,” said Catherine Dougan, director of administration for Allied Printing. “This is just the latest in our commitment to the environment and to renewable energy.”
