Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey announced that Hamden's Children's Center and Opportunity House have been award funding under the state's Nonprofit Grant Program.
The Children's Center is receiving $117,000 for building improvements, while Opportunity House was awarded $79,656 for new vehicles.
The Children's Center of Hamden is Connecticut's oldest private child caring agency, serving on average 150 children and their families each day. Opportunity House provides residential and day programs for adults within the autism spectrum with services tailored to individual needs, abilities, and preferences.
"These grants will help two of our top community-based, non-profit providers build upon their important missions of helping people in need," Speaker Sharkey said. "Both the Children's Center and Opportunity House are important members of the Hamden community, and have earned this support with their great work."
"I am thrilled that these groups will get the funding they need to continue to serve the people of Hamden," said State Rep. Michael D'Agostino (D-Hamden).
The Nonprofit Grant Program is designed to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, safety, and accessibility of health and human services being delivered by nonprofit organizations that have contracts or agreements with the state.
