A bill introduced by State Representative Mike D’Agostino (D-Hamden) that would provide greater protections for residents of Continuing-Care Retirement Communities (CCRC’s) was approved in the state Senate late Monday.
The bill passed the state House of Representatives earlier this year.
House Bill 5358, “An Act Establishing A Bill Of Rights For Residents Of Continuing-Care Retirement Communities” was considered and approved by the General Assembly’s Human Services Committee early this year following a public hearing.
“I am very pleased the Senate has approved this legislation that enhances and expands protections for residents of continuing-care retirement communities,” Rep. D’Agostino said. “This is good news for residents of continuing –care retirement communities throughout Connecticut who have committed their life savings to a CCRC provider.”
“The core function of a CCRC is to allow its residents to age in place with dignity and security,” D’Agostino said. “The bill, once it becomes law, will further require CCRC providers to meet those commitments.”
Rep. D’Agostino thanked State Senator Marilyn Moore (D-Bridgeport), Human Services Committee Co-Chair, for shepherding his bill in the Senate and legislators who provided bipartisan support for the bill.
Rep. D’Agostino’s bill goes next to Governor Dannel P. Malloy for his signature.
