During the recent legislative session, I worked to ensure that state aid to Farmington was protected for Fiscal Year 2016 (FY16). I voted for state aid increases in FY17 to $6.7 million, a 24% increase since FY14. This state aid supports town services and programs and helps to keep our local property taxes down.
We protected vital services for those in need, made the tax structure more equitable, provided property tax relief to cities and towns, invested substantially in transportation infrastructure, and fully exempted federally taxable military retirement pay from state income taxes.
In addition, Farmington was awarded a $200,000 grant from the State Bond Commission toward the construction of a live fire training facility, to be used by Farmington and Avon firefighters.
As vice-chair of the Energy and Technology Committee, I helped craft legislation that protects residential ratepayers from variable rate contracts offered by electric suppliers.
I was proud to introduce and champion legislation that affords more protection to our emergency medical services (EMS) first responders.
