AT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SYMPOSIUM

State Representative Patricia Dillon (D-New Haven) will serve as keynote speaker of the 2004 Domestic Violence Symposium "Beyond Surviving: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Domestic Violence." The annual event, which is free of charge to Yale community members and the public, will take place at Yale University’s School of Epidemiology on Saturday, March 27.

Rep. Dillon, a founding member of Connecticut’s battered women’s shelter and the first director of the New Haven shelter, will share her experience on issues relating to domestic violence based on her unique perspective as a senior legislator, health care researcher and community activist.

Rep. Dillon’s keynote address will cover a variety of subjects, including the need for students from different fields and professions to combine efforts to confront the complicated and devastating issue of domestic violence. The symposium audience is expected to consist primarily of medical, nursing, law and public health students as well as members of the surrounding community.

In addition, Rep. Dillon will lead a discussion group centering on legislative reform around domestic violence, at which her experience shaping health care policy on the state level will steer the intellectual exchange among participants.
