REP. DILLON ASKS CITY TO SUPPORT SENIORS
Calls on Mayor DeStefano to fill vacancy at West River Senior Center

Representative Patricia Dillon (D-New Haven) today called on New Have Mayor John DeStefano to fill the director’s position at the West River Senior Center. Rep. Dillon said the city has recently put a hiring freeze on the position.

In a letter to the mayor, Rep. Dillon said, “I find it very disconcerting that, at a time when the legislature obtained more than $7 million in new money for the City of New Haven, you are cutting back on funding for our senior citizens.”

Rep. Dillon continued, “I call on you today to immediately unfreeze this position and provide the seniors of the west side of our city with the support they so greatly deserve.”

Rep. Dillon was one of a group of local advocates that worked to open the West River Senior Center in the 1970’s. The center is located on the corner of Chapel and Norton streets in New Haven.

Representative Dillon was first elected to the General Assembly in 1984. She is an Assistant Majority Leader and serves on the Higher Education and Judiciary committees.
