GOVERNOR’S BONDING VETO HITS BEVERLY HILLS HOMEOWNERS
Funding for sinking homes eliminated by Rell

Representative Patricia Dillon (D-New Haven) expressed disappointment in Governor M. Jodi Rell for her decision to eliminate funding for New Haven’s “sinking homes.”

The homes, located near the West River in the Beverly Hills section of Westville, are experiencing cracked foundations, garage floors and basements. Portions of the structures are separating as the homes continue to inexplicably sink into the ground.

Rep. Dillon said, “I am very disappointed in the governor for not supporting these New Haven homeowners who are watching their homes slowly sink into the ground. I hope she will reconsider.”

A grant-in-aid in the amount of $2 million for the homeowners had been written into the bond package approved by the legislature during September’s special session of the House and Senate. The Governor vetoed the measure, and the funding is not included in her most recent bonding proposal to legislative leadership.

Representative Dillon was first elected to the General Assembly in 1984. She is an Assistant Majority Leader and serves on the Appropriations, Higher Education and Judiciary committees.
