REP. DILLON SUBMITS PROPOSAL FOR EDGEWOOD PARK FUNDING

Representative Patricia Dillon (D-New Haven) has filed legislation for the 2008 session that would appropriate $780,000 for the design and construction of an expanded ranger station for Edgewood Park in New Haven.

Rep. Dillon said, "Edgewood Park is a regional asset that draws people to New Haven. It is a key to the quality of life in our city. By expanding the ranger station, it would be my hope that we are able to expand the programming offered at Edgewood Park as well as improve security for the people who enjoy the park."

Rep. Dillon noted that Edgewood Park is one of New Haven's most heavily used parks, but it has the smallest ranger station.

A public space since the 1890's, in 1910, Donald Mitchell and the firm of Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr., designed the layout of Edgewood Park. The design included an extensive rose garden, a lily pond, an archery field, groves and glens, trails, carriage drives and a bridle path.

Representative Dillon was first elected to the General Assembly in 1984. She is an Assistant Majority Leader and serves on the Appropriations, Higher Education and Judiciary committees.
