LEGISLATION WILL OPEN DOORS OF AMISTAD ACADEMY
TO DWIGHT NEIGHBORHOOD

Representative Pat Dillon (D-New Haven) applauded House passage today of legislation that establishes a program to allow students who live within a half-mile radius of the former Timothy Dwight Elementary School in New Haven attend to the Amistad Academy charter school that will be housed there.

"Dwight neighborhood students have been very excited about this new partnership with Amistad Academy," Rep. Dillon said. "I want to thank Alderwoman Liz McCormack for bringing this issue to the legislature's attention. This is a terrific opportunity for area students to attend this top-notch charter school."

Amistad Academy would house 720 elementary and middle school students in the former Dwight School. In May of this year, the city approved the sale of the Dwight School to the Amistad Academy for $4.5 million

The bill awaits action by the State Senate.
