STATEMENT FROM REP. PATRICIA DILLON AND SEN. TONI HARP
RE: PROPOSED CLOSING OF NEW HAVEN POST OFFICES

State Representative Patricia Dillon (D-New Haven) and State Senator Toni Harp (D-New Haven) urged the New Haven Board of Aldermen to support a resolution opposing the closing of the Westville and Kilby Station Post Offices.

"We stand behind Alderwoman Liz McCormack and Alderwoman Jackie James-Evans in their fight to keep the doors open at all of New Haven's Post Offices. We are urging City Hall and the Board of Alderman to rally public support through public hearings on the issue. Although we hope to see positive action before the next board meeting, we must fight for New Haven in the meantime."

"Local branches of the Post Office are more than a convenience, they are important neighborhood institutions. The federal government won't hear our voices until we mobilize and raise our voices together. Saving New Haven's Post Office branches will take a groundswell of public pressure."

"Already, branches in East Hartford and West Hartford have been removed from the hit list. The elected officials of East Haven have taken a stand in support of their post office. We urge New Haven officials to do the same."

The affected post offices are in the legislative districts of Sen. Harp and Rep. Dillon.
