REP. DILLON THROWS “FIRST LETTUCE”
AT SEASON OPENING OF EDGEWOOD FARMERS’ MARKET

Rep. Pat Dillon was asked to open the 2012 season of the Edgewood Farmers’ Market by throwing the ceremonial “first lettuce” – a wink to the traditional first pitch at a baseball game.

“I’m not sure if the Yankees will ask me to join their bullpen, but it was an honor to throw out the ‘first lettuce’ to open the 2012 season of the Edgewood Farmers’ Market,” Rep Dillon said.

Representatives of CitySeed, the organizers of the market, asked Rep. Dillon to ceremonially open the season because of her long legislative commitment to making locally-grown produce available to city residents. Rep. Dillon authored the original pilot program that allowed residents on state assistance to use vouchers at area farmers’ markets – a program that has grown statewide.

Edgewood Farmers’ Market runs from May-December from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Sunday. Vendors set up in Edgewood Park on the corner of Whalley and West Rock Avenues.
