WESTVILLE CENTENARIAN CELEBRATED

Rep. Pat Dillon joined with Westville neighbors to honor Sam Kaplowitz's 100th birthday at a celebration at the Westville Synagogue.

Mr. Kaplowitz lived in the Oak Street neighborhood of New Haven, operating the iconic Kaplowitz' Candy Store there. He and his late wife were married on December 7, 1941. As a member of the 407th Antiaircraft Divison, he is a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge and also D-Day, part of the effort at Omaha Beach in Normandy.

Mr. Kaplowitz was joined by his family, many neighbors, Rabbi Fred Hyman and Rabbi Albert Feldman as well as a table of members of the Jewish War Veterans from World War II.

"One of the gifts of public life is being able to honor the service of those who fought for our country. We thank you for your service, and may today be a blessing," said Rep Dillon as she presented the Mr. Kaplowitz with a legislative citation.
