REP. DILLON DISCUSSES DIRT BIKE LAWS

As spring and summer approach, New Haven residents are dreading the annual appearance of a warm weather scourge – dirt bikes flying down city streets. The New Haven Register had a front page story on the problem and explored some potential solutions.

Rep. Pat Dillon has some legislation that would charge riders a significant fine to get their bikes out of an impound lot. There is also a version of the bill that would confiscate the title of an impounded bike. However, the title provision may be pulled after concerns were raised by the DMV Commissioner.

Read DMV Commissioner Melody Currey’s testimony on the bill here.

Dillon told the Register she is hopeful the bill will be passed this legislative session. She says the current fine “isn’t even a slap on the wrist.”
