NEW HAVEN POLICE CRACK DOWN ON DIRT BIKES, ATVS — AGAIN

NEW HAVEN - It’s become an annual tradition: residents and cops alike are fed up with people on illegal dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles driving recklessly and “terrorizing” neighborhoods, as one resident put it.

Residents know it’s not a new problem, and Sgt. Karl Jacobson, intelligence supervisor on the New Haven Police Department’s task force, said that these mobs of bikers have been prevalent every summer at least since he came onboard in 2007.

“It can start as early as March or April with the warm weather,” Jacobson said.

Riding a dirt bike on a public road — including city streets or highways — is illegal.
