HENRY GENGA IS SWORN INTO HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AFTER WINNING 10TH ASSEMBLY DISTRICT’S SPECIAL ELECTION
State Representative Henry Genga (D-East Hartford) was sworn in today, February 1st, to represent the Connecticut General Assembly’s 10th Assembly District, comprised of East Hartford. Rep. Genga fills the seat by special election after Rep. Melody Currey was elected Mayor of East Hartford in November. Rep. Genga will serve out the remainder of Currey’s term, which expires at the end of the year.
Genga, 66, a business teacher at East Hartford High School, fills the vacancy with many years of political experience under his belt. Genga has served on East Hartford’s town council from 1975 to 1985 and from 2003 to present. He has also served as Commissioner of the Metropolitan District Commission, Chairman of the Emergency Medical Commission, and Chairman of Investigations and Audit Committee and Retirement Board, among other political appointments and elected positions.
“I welcome Rep. Genga as the newest member of the House Democratic caucus,” said Speaker of the House James Amann. “Henry has a long standing public service record working locally on behalf of the residents of East Hartford, and I know he will bring that same energy and experience to the State Capitol.”
"I look forward to representing the 10th assembly district with a deep sense of honor and a commitment to the people in the district,” said Rep. Genga. “Although it is a short session, I plan on bringing new ideas, enthusiasm, and several years of political experience to the legislature.”
Some of Genga’s goals as state representative are to work for affordable health care, greater state aid for education, property tax reform, affordable energy alternatives, and to protect public safety and improve security.
