STATE REP. HENRY GENGA SUPPORTS “ENERGIZE CT” INITIATIVE,
URGES LEADERSHIP TO ADOPT EFFICIENT ENERGY POLICY

State Representative Henry Genga (D-East Hartford) is in agreement with Speaker of the House James Amann’s plan to formulate two energy task forces, one on fuel diversification and another on renewable energy sources, and with a series of “Energize CT” forums to be held throughout the state. He vowed to continue to work with legislative leadership to develop a sound statewide energy policy as soon as possible and called on Congress to address the crushing burden of energy and fuel costs on seniors and families.

“Every month, we cringe as we open our gas and electric bills,” said Rep. Genga. “We have to provide some relief for residents and businesses battling fuel costs. I know the price of electricity is going to go up again, which, with the fall approaching, makes us think of the affordability of keeping our homes warm as the temperatures drop.”

Rep. Genga attended Speaker Amann’s press conference held today with House Majority Leader Chris Donovan (D-Meriden) and Energy Committee House Chairman Steve Fontana (D-North Haven), at which Speaker Amann announced his dual approach to combating rising energy costs. The task forces mentioned above will be made up of industry representatives and the academic community.

“Urging conservation and efficiency is a key component to helping Connecticut with its energy problems,” said Rep. Genga. “I’m urging House leadership to develop a firm policy on energy that will produce tangible results.”

Speaker Amann convened the third in a series of summer legislative energy summits after the press conference.
