REP. GENGA URGES CONSTITUENTS TO FIGHT CL&P RATE HIKE REQUEST

Denouncing Connecticut Light & Power Co.’s request for a 60 percent increase in its fixed-rate residential surcharge, Rep. Henry Genga urged customers Thursday to voice their opposition with the state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) by writing to PURA or attending its Aug. 27 public hearing in New Britain.

“CL&P simply wants to increase its profit margin at the expense of residential customers, many of whom are on fixed incomes or struggling just to make ends meet,” Rep. Genga said. “I’m letting both CL&P and PURA know my opposition to this unconscionable request, and I hope as many citizens as possible will join with me in telling them, too.”

PURA will hold a public hearing on the request Aug. 27, and residents may speak and submit testimony on the Application of The Connecticut Light and Power Company to Amend Rate Schedules, Docket Number: 14-05-06. The hearing will start at 6:30 p.m. at 10 Franklin Square, New Britain.

Rep. Genga said that if you cannot appear in person, send your comments in writing to pura.executivesecretary@ct.gov or to the attention of: Executive Secretary, Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, 10 Franklin Square, New Britain, CT 06051. If you know the docket number and title of the case, include it with your comments.

Rep. Genga said that the more people who speak out about the increase, the more likely PURA will reject the rate hike. He urged citizens to attend the hearing and voice their opposition or to send letters opposing the rate hike to PURA.

For further information on the Aug. 27 hearing, contact Rep. Genga at (860) 240-8585 or Henry.Genga@cga.ct.gov. Information also may be obtained by contacting Lisa D. Lewis of PURA at (860) 827-2870 or lisa.lewis@ct.gov.

“We need to speak out and let PURA know our opposition,” Rep. Genga said.
