SPEAKER AMANN, REP. GONZALEZ SUPPORT JUDGE LOPEZ

Speaker of the House James A. Amann (D-Milford) joins with State Representative Minnie Gonzalez (D-Hartford) in support of the confirmation of Judge Carmen Lopez.

"I am grateful that the speaker has expressed support for Judge Lopez," said Rep. Gonzalez, who met with Speaker Amann this morning. "Despite some opposition to her nomination, I give thanks to Speaker Amann for supporting Judge Lopez for another eight year term.

"After following the Judiciary Committee proceedings, I am convinced that Judge Lopez is deserving of confirmation," Amann said. "During my tenure as Speaker, my agenda will include providing opportunities for more Hispanic judges."

The final vote was 26-11 to endorse Lopez for a second eight-year term on the trial bench.

Rep. Gonzalez is serving her fifth term in the Connecticut General Assembly. She is a member of the Appropriations, Judiciary and Public Safety Committees.
