I wanted to let you know about the ways the newly passed state budget will impact you and your family.
Beginning July 1, 2016, Mansfield will receive an additional $3,386,875 in state funding, mainly from the state’s Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) program, reformed under this budget. These reforms prioritize towns which host more tax-exempt property.
Mansfield is a top-tier PILOT community because it hosts the University of Connecticut. As a result, our rate of reimbursement is set to increase under this budget. I have made PILOT reform a priority and I am pleased to make progress on behalf of Mansfield’s middle-income property tax payers.
This budget, truly is a budget for Connecticut's middle-class families. This budget increases municipal aid to help ease the property tax burden for families and small businesses, protects the services that many working families rely on, and invests in a world-class transportation system to grow our economy.
Like many states, Connecticut's economy continues to recover slowly. This budget made significant cuts to the current services budget and acted to increase revenue to achieve a balanced solution. While it is unfortunate that any cuts had to be made, I supported this budget because it was the right thing to do for Mansfield families.
