This has been one of the most productive sessions for the Veteran's Affairs Committee – we have passed many bills that positively impact the lives of our Veterans. Here is yet another bill that has passed the House of Representatives in concurrence with the Senate. Data will be collected to determine how programs are working: www.cga.ct.gov/2015/BA/2015SB-00903-R01-BA.htm
Another good veterans bill that contains several provisions, one of which is waiving the fee to have veterans status on driver’s licenses, passed the House.
I attended CEA's rally and listened to concerns in regards to SBAC testing. They are urging the Senate to amend SB 1095 to eliminate SBAC testing. They note the SBAC test will not give them (teachers) any information they don't already have about the progress of their students. I was happy to join them in this effort.
Thanks to all that attended a great forum on the Conflict of Interest Bill last night. I will continue to fight for the measure in Hartford and will keep Bridgeport residents informed on its progress.
I was pleased to join with colleagues to testify in favor of the Conflict of Interest Bill recently heard in the Planning and Development Committee.

I was proud to join Governor Malloy and colleagues this morning to talk about initiatives to address veteran's homelessness and unemployment in Connecticut. I am also looking forward to working this session getting out returning overseas military back into the civilian workforce. We will look at applying Military Occupational Specialty (M.O.S) codes towards the qualifications when applying for jobs – in many instances veterans training far exceeds civilian training. The Step Up program has also proven to be an effective jobs tool for veterans and we will be looking to keep it funded. February 11, 2014

House Chair of the Veterans Committee Rep. Hennessy joins Governor Dannel P. Malloy at a bill signing ceremony for legislation expanding diversionary services for veterans passed last session. The legislation allows veterans to use the accelerated rehabilitation program twice rather than just once and broadens eligibility for the diversionary program for people with psychiatric disabilities and pretrial drug education. Veterans and specified relatives will be able to access state and federal departments of veterans' affairs services as an alternative to the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
