REP. SUSAN JOHNSON TO CHAIR PUBLIC HEALTH COMMITTEE
Windham Rep. Takes Leadership Role

State Representative Susan Johnson has been selected by House Speaker Brendan Sharkey to Chair the Legislature's Public Health Committee. The new session of the 2013 - 2014 General Assembly began January 9 where Rep. Johnson was sworn in for her third term in office.

“I greatly appreciate the significant role the Public Health Committee plays in shaping the policies affecting the health and well-being of Connecticut residents. I look forward to participating in these very important discussions,” said Rep. Johnson.

The Public Health Committee has cognizance over all programs under the Department of Public Health; the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Department of Developmental Services; the Office of Health Care Access; and all other matters relating to health, including emergency medical services, all licensing boards within the Department of Public Health, nursing homes, pure food and drugs, and controlled substances, including the treatment of substance abuse.

"I'm honored to have been chosen to serve as Chair of the Public Health Committee," said Rep. Johnson.

Rep. Johnson was also appointed to serve on the Education, Finance Revenue & Bonding and Insurance & Real Estate Committees. In addition, Rep. Johnson also Co-chairs the Speaker's English Language Learners Task Force and the Medical Assistance Oversight Council.

Susan Johnson is serving her third term representing Connecticut’s 49th General Assembly District in Windham. She is Chair of the state legislature’s Public Health Committee and a member of the Education, Finance Revenue & Bonding and Insurance & Real Estate Committees.
