REP. JOHNSON, SEN. WILLIAMS ANNOUNCE MAJOR FUNDING
FOR WINDHAM REGIONAL COMMUNITY COUNCIL

Hartford – State Representative Susan Johnson and State Senator Don Williams (D-Brooklyn) are pleased to announce the approval by the State Bond Commission of significant bonding to support the programs at the Windham Regional Community Council (WRCC). The $814,500 in bonding will help retire the council's mortgage debt and free up funds for additional programs that serve all of eastern Connecticut.

"I am very pleased to see this bonding approved and thank Governor Malloy and Senator Don Williams for their support and commitment to social service programs in Windham," Rep. Susan Johnson said. "I also appreciate the services WRCC provides and their employees who play a vital role in supporting our growing downtown area, shops and restaurants."

"The Windham Regional Community Council has helped thousands of area residents improve their lives," said Senate President Donald E. Williams. "This bonding is an investment in the families that benefit every day from the services the WRCC provides."

"The WRCC provides a critical safety net for many of those in our community who oftentimes come to the organization at their most vulnerable moments," Governor Malloy said. "This will allow the organization to continue these services and ensure that it can continue to provide support to the Greater Windham community."

"On behalf of The Board of Directors, we are very appreciative and thank Governor Malloy for seeing the merits of these projects which will create financial stability for the WRCC," said Jeffrey Beadle, Executive Director, Windham Regional Community Council, Inc. "This gives us the ability to maintain and also grow our services."

"WRCC assists thousands of our neighbors," said Rep. Linda Orange (D-Colchester), who represents a portion of Windham. "The state is working to ensure WRCC can continue in its worthy endeavors."

The WRCC provides services to 5,000 people each year, including adolescent crisis services, a teen pregnancy prevention program, HIV/AIDS treatment and case management, supportive housing assistance, veteran services and has an assistive technology center onsite for people with disabilities. More information on these services can be found online at: www.wrccinc.org or by calling 860-423-4534.

The bonding was approved at the June 21st State Bond Commission meeting at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
