AARP HONORS JOHNSON FOR HELPING
TO EXPAND ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE

State Representative Susan Johnson has received the 2014 AARP Legislative Achievement Award in recognition of her leadership in expanding access to health care and support family caregivers by removing restrictive barriers on Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs).

“Connecticut families provide approximately $5.8 billion in care annually for an aging parent or loved one, helping them to live independently in their own homes. These family caregivers have a huge responsibility and your advocacy to expand nurse scope of practice for APRNs will make a tremendous difference,” Nora Duncan, AARP state director, said in an announcement to Rep. Johnson.

“As a result of your efforts, 486,000 family caregivers will have access to additional health care options that help keep their loved ones living safely and independently in the community,” Duncan said.

“I am deeply honored to receive this award from AARP and to have my work in the legislature recognized by such an important organization,” Johnson said. “We need to continue to do everything we can to provide health care options to caregivers.”
