ROJAS SWORN IN AS NEW STATE REPRESENTATIVE
Receives Assignments on Three Legislative Committees

State Representative Jason Rojas was sworn in by Connecticut's Secretary of the State this morning as the new State Representative serving the 9th General Assembly district of East Hartford, Glastonbury, and Manchester.

The ceremony took place at the State Capitol in Hartford during the opening day of the 2009 session of the state legislature.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of my home community," he said.

Rojas has also been appointed by the newly elected Speaker of the House Christopher G. Donovan (D-Meriden) to serve on the Finance Revenue and Bonding, Higher Education, and Planning & Development Committees.

"This is going to be a challenging session because of the effect that the global economic crisis is having on our state," Rojas remarked. "We must work together to protect Connecticut residents and seek their best interests as we tackle these challenges. I am confident that by working in an honest, bipartisan manner we can help Connecticut get through these trying times."

Prior to his election, Rojas served as a member of the East Hartford Town Council and the East Hartford Board of Education.

The entire membership of the state legislature serves two-year terms. This year's legislative session ends on Wednesday, June 3.
