REP. ROJAS STATEMENT ON FUTURE OF GLASTONBURY/ROCKY HILL FERRY

State Rep. Jason Rojas supports the preservation of the historic Connecticut River ferry that operates between Glastonbury and Rocky Hill.

“As a student of history I fully appreciate the value of our ferries and the role they play in our local heritage and economy. At the same time we face very stark fiscal realities and we will have to be creative in how we go about preserving services and institutions that we value as communities and as a state.

“Also important and perhaps under-appreciated is the fact that the ferries serve as a much- needed commuter option for much of the Southern Connecticut River Valley. This will be critically important with the planned year long re-construction of the Arrigoni Bridge between Portland and Middletown set to begin soon.

“The Rocky Hill ferry and also the Chester ferry will be another option for many commuters seeking to cross the Connecticut River. Another positive outcome may be that the construction will also result in increased revenues from user fees that can be used to mitigate any possible reductions in state subsidies,” Rojas said.

“I encourage you to express your thoughts on the matter, contact me at 860-240-8760 or jason.rojas@cga.ct.gov,” Rojas said.
