State Rep. Jason Rojas has been chosen to serve as House Chair of the Connecticut General Assembly’s Planning and Development Committee.
“I am honored to have been appointed co-chair of Planning and Development by House Speaker-elect Brendan Sharkey,” Rojas said.
“I have served two terms on P&D and it is a policy area of great interest to me. The committee oversees policy areas important to East Hartford including matters relating to local government, housing, urban renewal, sewer and metropolitan districts, home rule and planning and zoning and critically important to me: regional planning. I am honored to have been made a member of the new Speaker’s leadership team and I'm looking forward to getting to work on behalf my district and other towns,” Rojas said.
In his new position, Rojas will work with the Senate co-chair at developing the committee’s agenda and playing a leading role in crafting legislation.
“Jason brings a wealth of knowledge and talent to this chairmanship, and I am confident in his judgment as we tackle the important issues that impact both local and state government in the Planning and Development Committee,” said Rep. Sharkey, who once chaired the Planning and Development Committee himself.
Rojas has served the 9th Assembly District, which now consists of portions of East Hartford and Manchester, since his first election to the legislature in November 2008.
