House Speaker Brendan Sharkey has chosen Rep. Jason Rojas to serve as deputy majority leader in the House of Representatives and as co-chair of the legislative Screening Committee.
Representative Rojas has also been re-appointed to the legislature’s powerful Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee as well as to the Education and Planning and Development committees.
“I want to thank Speaker Sharkey for this important opportunity to serve as deputy majority leader and co-chair of the important legislative Screening Committee. I look forward to working with my colleagues on these committees, which are critical to the interests of all citizens of Connecticut,” Rep. Rojas said.
“As a leader within our caucus, Rep. Rojas has the experience and ability to help improve the quality of life for everyone in Connecticut, while at the same time representing the interests of the families of East Hartford and Manchester,” said Speaker Sharkey (D-Hamden). “Jason will play a key role in moving our legislative agenda forward this session.”

The Screening Committee is responsible for reviewing all legislation once it has passed out of one of the 27 committees of the General Assembly. The Screening Committee ensures that the flow of legislation continues to move through the process within the set deadlines that it faces. As the Majority Leaders Chairman of Screening Jason will be responsible for managing the process on the floor of the House of Representatives when it is in session.
