HOUSE RELIEVES TOWNS FROM REVALUATION OF CASINO PROPERTIES

State Representatives Mary McGrattan (D-Groton, Ledyard, Montville) and Kevin Ryan announce that legislation was passed by the House of Representatives to exempt Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun from the revaluation of real estate property.

"This will allow our towns to concentrate on revaluing properties that actually contribute to the tax base," said Ryan. "It will save taxpayers a great deal of money in the long run."

Current law requires towns to revaluate all real estate and personal property every ten years even if tax exempt, which the casinos are because of their location on sovereign land.

"It would be very difficult to revaluate casinos because of their size and the fact that the tribes are sovereign nations," McGrattan said. "Exempting these properties would save the towns time and money."
