LAWMAKERS WELCOME STATE FUNDING FOR MONTVILLE PROJECTS

State Representatives Kevin Ryan, Betsy Ritter (D-Montville, Waterford), Tom Reynolds (D-Ledyard, Montville, Preston), State Senators Edith Prague (D-19th), and Andrea Stillman (D-20th) announced today that state funding was approved for two Montville projects in the amount of $1.8 million.

The water project, in the amount of $800,000, will extend the water line through the Palmertown section of Montville to help residents with wells that have been polluted by leaking gas lines.

The Mohegan Schools project, totalling $1 million due to increased construction costs, will provide two new classrooms, a new library, and other various renovations and improvements.

“I would like to thank my colleagues for their efforts in getting this funding,” said Rep. Ryan. “These funds will allow the town to move forward with these important projects without having to further burden the local taxpayers.”

“I am particularly pleased to see these two projects move forward,” said Rep. Ritter. “Montville’s development and well-being will be enhanced and the town will be in a stronger position to intelligently plan for the future.”

“The state bonding we have secured for Montville not only provides property tax relief, but also enhances the education and public health of our community,” said Rep. Reynolds.

“Two of government’s most important responsibilities are to provide for public health and public education, and authorization of these two bonding projects underscores our commitment to meet those responsibilities,” Senator Prague said. “A reliable supply of clean water is an integral part of a sound public health system just as new school facilities lend themselves to a fruitful learning environment. Now Montville residents can look forward to these improvements on both fronts.”

“I’m pleased that our state government has come through to provide funding for a public water supply where the underground water supply is no longer suitable, and I’m pleased that our state government has come through to provide assistance with the cost overruns associated with construction at the Mohegan Schools,” Senator Stillman said. “So often municipal governments simply can’t afford these large-scale capital improvement projects so it’s critically important for our state government to step up and help out.”
