MONTVILLE LEGISLATORS ANNOUNCE $800,000 IN BONDING
FOR MONTVILLE WATERLINE PROJECT

State Rep. Kevin Ryan, State Rep. Tom Reynolds (D-Ledyard, Preston, Montville), State Rep. Betsy Ritter (D-Waterford, Montville), State Senator Andrea Stillman (D-Montville) and State Senator Edith Prague (D-Montville) today announced that $800,000 to complete a water line extension in the Palmertown area of Montville is expected to be approved when the state Bond Commission meets on February 29.

The wells serving homes and businesses in the area had been polluted by a leaking underground storage tank system that was used to store gasoline at a former gas station located on Route 163. The town received $2 million in 2003 for remediation of the contamination, and this additional funding will be used to complete the project.

"This money is vital for Montville and the expansion of its water program," said Rep. Ryan. "It is especially important for the residents in the Palmertown portion of town, who have had particular difficulties, and I hope it will stimulate the area's economy."

"It is imperative that the residents in this effected area receive safe, dependable drinking water," Rep. Reynolds said. "I am very pleased that this funding will go towards the completion of this project."

The funding will be used towards completion of a loop of the waterline extension between Route 163 and Maple Avenue via Pequot Lane, which will help to maintain adequate flows in the pipe and safe quality, the construction of a pump station ensuring all connected properties have sufficient water pressure, and providing lateral connections to a handful of properties.
