MONTVILLE LAWMAKERS ANNOUNCE BOND FUNDING
TO REPAIR DERRY HILL ROAD BRIDGE

The Montville legislative delegation welcomed the State Bond Commission approval of a $350,000 grant under the Local Bridge Program to finance the repair of a bridge on Derry Hill Road in Montville. The bond commission approved the funding on Monday.

This grant will be matched with federal and local monies to fund the total project, estimated at just over $1 million.

“I am pleased the state considers Derry Hill Road a priority,” said State Representative Kevin Ryan (D-Montville, Bozrah, Franklin, Lebanon). “The cooperation between the state and Montville will improve safety and quality of life in town.”

“Repairing our infrastructure and keeping our roads and bridges safe is one the highest priorities for Connecticut and one of best possible ways to create jobs,” said Rep. Tom Reynolds (D-Montville, Ledyard).

Rep. Betsy Ritter (D-Montville/Waterford) said, “I am pleased to see this additional funding allocation for the Derry Hill Road bridge to help complete this important repair project.”

“The overhaul of the Derry Hill Road bridge in Montville is one of more than 3,400 in Connecticut eligible for these state funds, to be matched with additional funds from both the federal and local governments. I have long maintained the importance of partnerships and shared responsibility for capital improvements and in this case, where public safety of local residents is paramount, I think it is entirely appropriate for the state to contribute its share,” Senator Andrea L. Stillman (D-Waterford) said. “This project is part of the state Department of Transportation’s Local Bridge Program, which has been helping local governments this way since 1984; this particular bridge was approved for funding in 2007.”

The General Assembly created the Local Bridge Program in 1984 as part of the state’s Infrastructure Renewal Program. This program provides for state grants and loans to municipalities for the removal, replacement, reconstruction or rehabilitation of local bridges.
