Bobby Sanchez Applauds House Passage of Early Childhood Education Legislation
Bobby Sanchez, vice-chair of the legislature's Education Committee, lauded passage of a measure, HB 7020 that will make various changes to early childhood education laws relating to teachers and initiatives. Sanchez, a pre-school teacher advocate for many years said during the House floor debate that teachers deserve to be fairly compensated for their work. While teaching jobs at daycare facilities and at Head Start programs require Associates and Bachelor's degrees, the base pay for these positions are nominal and don't offer any incentives for teachers to stay. "I am pleased to see our progress and that we are moving in the right direction by addressing some of the concerns in this bill, but more needs to be done to support our teachers," he said.
