WALKER HONORED AS 2010 FAMILY LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR
BY CT COUNCIL OF FAMILY SERVICE AGENCIES
The Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies honored State Representative Toni Walker, D, New Haven, as the 2010 Family Legislator of the Year.
"It is an honor to be named Family Legislator of the Year," Rep. Walker said. "I will continue to advocate for the most vulnerable citizens and families throughout the state.
"Throughout her service in the State Legislature, Representative Walker has proved herself to be a true champion for Connecticut families," said Daniel J. O'Connell, Ed. D., President and CEO of the Council. "Her leadership and advocacy on several issues have marked her as an exceptional legislator dedicated to preserving and enhancing protections for families throughout the state, especially those who have entered the Juvenile Justice System."
As House Chair of the Human Services Committee, Representative Walker has worked on many child and family related issues such as high-quality child care, appropriate funding for Care4Kids, prevention of abuse and neglect of children, and quality education for children in DCF's care.
The Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies is a statewide network of non-profit family service agencies that delivers services in more than ninety locations throughout the state. The mission of the Council is to be the premier resource to strengthen Connecticut's diverse individuals and families, and the communities in which they live. The 17 non-profit member agencies of the Council are nationally accredited and administer a wide range of programs and services to accomplish their missions. This is the 21st consecutive year that the Council has presented the Family Legislator of the Year award.
