WATERBURY TO RECEIVE STATE FUNDING FOR ROAD IMPROVEMENTS
Reps Butler and Berger pleased with Bond Commission item

State Representatives Larry B. Butler (D-Waterbury) and Jeff Berger (D-Waterbury) welcome the expected allocation of funds to the city of Waterbury for road improvements. The State Bond Commission is meeting Friday and is expected to approve the first half of the 2013 town aid road grant in the amount of $15 million. Waterbury’s portion of the allocation is $271,581. A second similar grant will follow at the end of the year. Also known as TAR, Town Aid for Roads grants are generally released in January and July each year.

“These funds help stabilize local property taxes and put people to work on projects that need to be done,” said Rep. Butler. “Town Aid Road grants are especially important, allowing communities like Waterbury to maintain our roads. Every dollar received from the state is one less needed from local taxpayers.”

“The infusion of these funds means a boost to Waterbury’s infrastructure and quality of life,” said Rep. Berger. “Staying on top of required maintenance of local roads saves taxpayers money in the long run.”

The state grant funds allocated are used locally for safety issues design work and repaving.

The State Bond Commission meets Friday, July 27 at 10:30 a.m. in room 1E of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
