WATERBURY LEGISLATORS HAIL FUNDS FOR BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB

Waterbury legislators today announced approval of funding for the Greater Waterbury Boys and Girls Club by the State Bond Commission for various repairs and improvements.

The Greater Waterbury Boys and Girls Club received $750,000 for renovations and improvements to its facility at 1037 East Main Street in Waterbury.

The renovations include roof, gymnasium floor and foyer flooring replacement as well as improvements to the game room and bathroom/changing areas.

“Boys and Girls Clubs across the state are working with parents, communities and schools to provide the strong and stable foundation necessary to help our children grow into successful adults,” said Governor Dannel P. Malloy. “This funding will not only improve the physical infrastructure of this Club but also represents an investment in a brighter future for the young people of Waterbury.”

“I thank Governor Malloy for his support of these funds for the Boys and Girls Club,” Rep. Victor Cuevas said. “This institution has been an integral part of Waterbury for many years and I am pleased these much-needed funds were approved.”

“Congratulations to the Boys and Girls Club that has been molding and enriching young and adult lives for well over a century,” Rep. Jeff Berger said. “These funds send a clear message that we are in full support of keeping them in Waterbury for well into the future.

“Upgrading the facilities at the Greater Waterbury Boys and Girls Club allows this valuable organization to continue providing the city and surrounding communities with an increased array of recreational and cultural activities,” said Rep. Larry B. Butler “Giving our youth healthy and constructive alternatives goes a long way to making sure our future is a bright one.”

“I am pleased the Waterbury Boys and Girls Club is receiving a share of funds to assist in undertaking important renovations to the roof, gym floor and bathroom areas. Democrats and Republicans worked together to make this a reality, thus I congratulate my colleagues especially Rep. Cuevas for his tenacity and diligence,” Rep. Selim Noujaim said. “These improvements and renovations will be welcome by each and every child who uses the facility.”

“I applaud the Bond Commission for awarding this money to help the Waterbury Boys and Girls Club,” Rep. Anthony D’Amelio said. “The Club is an important part of our community and this grant will help them in their mission to continue to serve the youth of Waterbury and the surrounding area for many more years.”
