HOUSE PASSES EXTENSION OF “HUSKY” ADULT HEALTH INSURANCE
State Representative Juan Candelaria (D-New Haven) today applauded the House of Representatives’ approval of legislation extending HUSKY medical benefits to 13,000 adults with incomes 150% of the poverty level. Rep. Candelaria co-sponsored the legislation, which passed by a vote of 123-22.
“It is vital that we have HUSKY health coverage available to low-income adults. Many people in my district rely on HUSKY health coverage because their employers will not or cannot afford to cover them,” said Rep. Candelaria. “I am glad that we are able to extend this much needed program. The extension could also make us eligible for federal matching grants, which could reduce the price by half.”
The HUSKY adult program will extend benefits to its adult recipients through the end of the fiscal year, June 30, 2005.
The legislation awaits action by the State Senate.
Rep. Candelaria represents the 95th General Assembly District. He is Vice Chair of the Commerce Committee, and a member of the Appropriations and Judiciary Committees.
