REP. CANDELARIA APPOINTED DEPUTY MAJORITY WHIP AND VICE CHAIR OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT ADVANCEMENT COMMITTEE
State Representative Juan Candelaria (D-New Haven) has been named Deputy Majority Whip and vice chair of Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee by incoming House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan (D-Meriden).
"This is a great honor for me to have been appointed Deputy Majority Whip by incoming Speaker Donovan to work with my colleagues to support and secure important votes," Rep. Candelaria said. "I look forward to working with everyone in the House Chamber to ensure that we move legislation successfully and enthusiastically."
"I am proud to have Juan on my team. He has the drive and intelligence to be an excellent leader in the House Chamber," Speaker Donovan said.
The Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee is charged with all matters relating to public and independent colleges and universities as well as, post-secondary education and job training institutions and programs to ensure that programs are efficient and effective. It also deals with adult job training programs offered to the public by any state agency or funded in whole or in part by the state, just to mention a few.
Rep. Candelaria said, "I am delighted to have been re-appointed to serve as vice chair of the Higher Education Committee. There are challenges ahead of us, but we look forward to continue our hard work in supporting legislation that will bring higher education to new levels for the benefit of our entire state."
Candelaria was also appointed to the Legislative sub-committee of Appropriations.
Juan Candelaria was elected to office in 2002 representing the 95th Assembly District in New Haven.
