REP. CANDELARIA: GOVERNOR THROWS TOWNS A CURVE
BY WITHHOLDING STATE ROAD FUNDING
State Representative Juan Candelaria (D-New Haven) called on Governor M. Jodi Rell to release the state aid that would fund paving projects and road repairs in New Haven.
"Road maintenance is the type of municipal activity that is planned way ahead of time," Candelaria said. "Limiting or delaying funds intended for this purpose leaves projects dead in their tracks and hampers local efforts to keep the traffic flowing."
Due to the current budget deficit, the governor has held back $30 million in Town Aid Road (TAR) Grants.
In the previous fiscal year, the towns received the following TAR grants:
Juan Candelaria represents New Haven's 95th Assembly District. He is Deputy Majority Whip, and vice chair of the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee. He is also a member of the Appropriations and Regulations Review Committees.
