REP. JUAN CANDELARIA REAPPOINTED TO LEADERSHIP POST

State Rep. Juan Candelaria has retained his position as Deputy Majority Leader, and will continue to serve on the Appropriations, Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committees, the Joint Committee on Legislative Management and the Education Committee.

Candelaria has been a strong leader within the caucus, supporting critical initiatives that benefit urban communities and working together with colleagues to push measures that benefit working families. He also recently completed his term as Chair of the Black and Latino Caucus.

“As a leader within our caucus, Rep. Candelaria has the experience and ability to help improve the quality of life for everyone in Connecticut, while at the same time representing the interests of the families of New Haven,” Speaker Sharkey said. “Juan will play a key role in moving our legislative agenda forward this session."

“I am very pleased that Juan accepted his role as Deputy Majority Leader for a second term,” said House Majority Leader, Joe Aresimowicz. “As a former chair of the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, Juan is a strong advocate for his community. His leadership skills and vast array of knowledge about the legislative process makes him a great asset to the team.”

Juan was sworn in to his 7th term on opening day of the 2015 Legislative Session.

“As one of theĀ  ranking members of the Latino Caucus, I am humbled to be able to represent my community in the General Assembly and to serve in this leadership capacity,” Candelaria said. “I have worked diligently to be an effective voice in Hartford on issues important to the community and look forward to continue my work in the legislature as we face new challenges.”
