The Red Sox and State of Connecticut are teaming up for a new Red Sox Foundation license plate.
Proceeds will help fund scholarships for public school children in the state.
Rep. Pat Dillon cheered the new scholarship program and said Connecticut officials should push for former Red Sox pitcher and Westville resident 'Smoky Joe' Wood to be included in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
‘Smoky Joe’ Wood left the game with a career ERA of 2.03 and became the baseball coach at Yale University, residing on Marvel Road in Westville. The NH Register called him the ‘marvel of Marvel Road.”
