I recently joined West River activist and constituent John Fitzpatrick at The Grid for the rollout of his "ShugaTrak" smartphone app that promises to help with diabetes management (read about the event in the Independent).
John's product is very exciting for job development and promoting health awareness. It can also reduce health care costs because the effects of diabetes can result in excessive use of emergency rooms.
ShugaTrak automatically takes blood glucose data from glucose meters and sends them out in text messages and email to the people you designate to have that information. ShugaTrak would allow a parent to have instant access to a teen's or loved one's blood glucose levels.

John Fitzpatrick's ShugaTrak was the winner of Startup Weekend in 2011 (covered by the Register and New Journal) and is the result of efforts to make New Haven an 'Idea Capital.' The state has provided support through Tech Start, Small Business Development and CT Innovations.
