The new law is about improving safety for vulnerable users of local roads.
Vulnerable users can be a pedestrian, a highway worker, a person riding a bicycle, a person using a skateboard or roller skates,, a person operating a tractor, a person using a wheelchair or motorized chair, or a sight impaired person their service animal.
The new law creates a maximum fine of one thousand dollars on a driver who fails to exercise reasonable care and causes the serious physical injury or death of a vulnerable user of a public way.
Rep. Dillon has a strong commitment to improving pedestrian safety. She has led the charge for state funding for traffic-calming measures along Whaley Avenue and in Westville Village.
