Police in New Haven, West Haven and East Haven, joined by state police, put the brakes on “an extremely large, illegal dirt bike ride” on Sunday, authorities said Monday.
Police arrested, issued infractions to or seized the vehicles of 26 ATV, dirt bike and transport vehicle riders.
In 2013, a law was passed to allow higher fines for illegal dirt bike riders. Connecticut municipalities can now charge $1,000 for a first offense, $1,500 for a second offense and $2,000 for all offenses after that. Previously, the fee was $250. The bill was proposed by state Rep. Pat Dillon, D-New Haven.
