REPS. GODFREY, WALLACE, SCIRÉ APPLAUD WINDFALL FOR DANBURY
State grants coming senior housing, family shelter and Western

Representatives Bob Godfrey (D-Danbury), Lew Wallace (D-Danbury) and Grace Sciré (D-Danbury) are pleased to announce that the State Bond Commission has approved funding for three important projects in Danbury. Funding has been approved for senior housing, a new family shelter and improvements to Western Connecticut State University.

Rep. Godfrey said, "We are making a statement with this funding: Danbury is looking out for the interests of seniors, families and students. Lew Wallace, Grace Sciré and I are constantly looking for opportunities to secure state money for our hometown."

The Bond Commission approved the use of $3.5 million in previously allocated funds to construct 36 new units of senior housing on Memorial Drive in Danbury.

A grant of $210,000 was also approved for Family and Children’s Aid, Incorporated. The money will cover costs associated with the acquisition of an 8,000 sq. ft. building on Harmony Street to be used as a family shelter. "This is an excellent use of state money," Rep. Sciré noted of the shelter. "We are taking care of people who need a helping hand to get back on their feet. Protecting families must be a top priority."

The Commission has also approved more than $41 million for projects at Western Connecticut State University including: funds for the purchase of Roberts Avenue Elementary School and construction of the Science Center for the Midtown Campus.
