REP. GODFREY APPLAUDED AS CHAMPION OF OPEN GOVERNMENT
State Representative Bob Godfrey (D-Danbury) was recently honored by the Connecticut Freedom of Information Commission. Rep Godfrey received the 2003 Distinguished Service Award for his work to promote open government.
"The Commission presents its Distinguished Service Award to individuals who have advanced the cause of open and accountable government. It is with great pleasure that we honor Representative Godfrey in 2003," said Mitchell W. Pearlman, Executive Director and General Counsel of the Freedom of Information Commission. "We honor Representative Godfrey not only for his stalwart efforts during the 2003 session, but also for his commitment, since his election in 1988, to both broadening legitimate access to government and thwarting attempts to weaken the FOI Act."
"Open government equals good government," Rep. Godfrey said. "Unfortunately, Connecticut is all too familiar with the evils that surface when government operates in secret. We must continue to push for open, responsible government. This award is a true honor."
Rep. Godfrey is the State Representative from the 110th district in Danbury. The eight-term Democrat serves as Deputy Majority Leader, as chairman of the House Democrats’ Bill Review Committee, and as a member of the Judiciary Committee, the Legislative Management Committee, and the Public Safety Committee.
