REP. GODFREY SELECTED TO GUIDE LEGISLATIVE REFORM

Recently, State Representative Robert Godfrey (D-Danbury) was appointed to serve on the Subcommittee of Legislative Procedure under the Office of Legislative Management.

The formation of the Subcommittee on Legislative Procedure is the first comprehensive effort from lawmakers to reform the legislative process and make policymaking more transparent and accessible to both residents and legislators.

House Majority Leader James A. Amann (D-Milford) made the appointment as part of a continued effort to make state government more accessible, inclusive and cost-efficient.

"I am confident of Rep. Godfrey success on the subcommittee because of his record as a champion of expanding public access to information relating to state government through mediums such as television and the Internet," Rep. Amann said.

"Rep. Godfrey was instrumental in the launching of Connecticut Network (CT-N) and making documents brought before the General Assembly accessible electronically to the people of this state, enabling them to following the legislative process simultaneously. I am hopeful this subcommittee will produce greater innovative reforms to open up government for the citizens of this state," Rep. Amann continued.

Rep. Godfrey, a Deputy Majority Leader, said, "The establishment of this subcommittee will enhance meaningful public participation in the process. Serious ethical violations from the former Governor and others have given our state a black eye. This misconduct signals the need for increased effort on the part of lawmakers to help restore the confidence of Connecticut’s citizens in the legislative process. The formation of this subcommittee is a significant step in that direction and I am pleased to be part of this endeavor."
