REP. GODFREY ELECTED TO LEAD CSG EASTERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE
State Representative Bob Godfrey (D-Danbury) has been elected by the Council of State Government to co-chair the organization’s Eastern Regional Conference.
The Conference of State Governments (CSG) is a regionally based, multibranch, nonpartisan organization of U.S. states and territories. The membership organization, which was formed in 1933 to serve all 50 states, interprets changing national and international conditions, advocates multistate problem-solving and partnerships, builds leadership skills to improve decision making, and promotes the sovereignty of the state and their role in the federal system.
The Eastern Regional Conference (ERC) is composed of 15 member jurisdictions: 10 Northeastern states (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware), the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Canadian provinces of Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.
"I’m very honored by this special recognition from colleagues from many jurisdictions, each with multiple parties, unique approaches to public policy, and differing political philosophies," said Rep. Godfrey. "I’m ready for this challenge, continuing to promote region-wide initiatives, facilitate inter-branch cooperation, advocate on state-federal issues, and educate policymakers and the public on regional priorities and trends, which is the mission of CSG."
Rep. Godfrey’s co-Chair for 2005 will be State Senator Toni Harp (D-New Haven).
"Sen. Harp and I will be responsible for organizing CSG/ERC’s major event for 2005, when Connecticut hosts of our annual meeting," Rep. Godfrey continued. "Working with the other two members of the host committee, State Sen. Judith Freedman (R-Westport) and Rep. Cathy Tymniak (R-Fairfield), we look forward to strengthening ties across our state, national, and international borders. We’re excited about highlighting the best of Connecticut to our many colleagues from many states as well as their families and guests."
The 45th Annual Meeting will be held July 2005 in Connecticut at the Mohegan Sun Resort in Uncasville. The convention will unite officials from three branches of state government, together with members of the private sector, to discuss public policy affecting their respective jurisdictions. The central purpose of the meeting is to serve as a vehicle to promote greater regional cooperation, communication, and action.
