ALMOST FAMILY ADULT DAY CARE CENTER WILL NOT SHUT DOWN
Rep. Godfrey Works Behind the Scenes to Help Keep Save the Center

The Almost Family Day Care Center, an adult care facility in Danbury, will no longer be forced to shut down thanks, in part, to some behind the scenes help from State Representative Bob Godfrey (D-Danbury).

The privately owned center had announced that it would close down on October 21st due to low profits. Almost family is one of the only centers for adult care in the Danbury region and many families would have been left stranded without care for their special needs family members without it. Now, those families can continue to use the center.

"For many of our families, Almost Family is all that that their special needs loved ones have for daytime care. The skilled staff at Almost Family provide for a caring and energetic atmosphere for the many special care patients that come to its facility every day. The center provides a space where patients can socialize and feel as though they are viable and active members of society. Without it there is a vacuum that would be very hard to fill," Rep. Godfrey said.

Almost Family’s current manager, who is closely connected to the center, was able to shore up the money to buy the center from its Kentucky based owners. The owner’s then agreed to keep the center open until November.

Rep. Godfrey worked with the Department of Social Services and the Department of Public Health to quickly expedite the lisencing process for the center as it changes over to new ownership. This cuts through the redtape the center would normally have to undergo, and allows it to stay open during the transfer process.

"This should provide for a more seamless transition for the center and its patients," Rep. Godfrey said. "I am glad that I was able to do what I could to help and even more pleased that the center will no longer have to close down."
