REP. GODFREY, GOV. MALLOY ANNOUNCE $475,000
FOR AIDS PROJECT GREATER DANBURY
State Representative Bob Godfrey joins Governor Malloy in announcing state funding for Aids Project Greater Danbury (APGD). The $475,000 will go to purchase and renovate their administration building at 30 West St. The money is expected to be approved at the next State Bond Commission meeting scheduled for 4:00 pm on Wednesday October 3, in room 1B of the Legislative Office Building.
"I am very grateful for Governor Malloy’s support of Aids Project Greater Danbury," said Rep. Godfrey. "First, for the humane reason that those living with AIDS need the help that APGD brings; second, because APGD provides prevention education that few others are doing, and; third, because this capital investment will save hundreds of thousands of dollars for rent that can now be put towards direct services to those in need."
“There is sincere gratitude from the Board of APGD to the Governor and Legislature for their continued support of the care provided to AIDS patients in Greater Danbury,” said Dr. Donald Evans, founder and Chairman of APGD since 1984. “We are a community care organization with a fully trained staff providing services to nearly 400 clients. All funds raised for APGD are used directly for patient care and federal grants pay the salaries of our professional personnel. Our sincere thanks go to the Governor and his staff.”
Roberta Stewart, Executive Director of APGD said, “How grateful we are for Bob's work and for the Governor in supporting those living with HIV disease in the greater Danbury area. It has been a long road to get to this point of permanence in the community."
Godfrey has been a long serving member of APGD's board of directors and active in community health projects such as APGD.
